Maria Island is now a National Park, with no permanent inhabitants.  Visitors arrive by ferry and can stay the night in Darlington in converted convict cottages from the 1820s.
The land- and sea-scapes are breath-taking and the island is full of wildlife, including wallabies, echidna, wombats and bandicoots.
