The idyllic town of Sandavágur ("sandy bay") has an ancient history. There is a 13th century carved Viking runestone in the red-roofed church. Opposite the church is the sculpture "Seyðamaðurin á Sondum" based on old folklore about a shepherd who stole the red dress of a giantess.
