The Archipelago of the Recherche, or Bay of Isles, is a group of 105 islands and over 1500 rocky outcrops, south east of Esperance. The waters are not fully charted so our ship sailed in with great care and anchored quite far out before launching its fleet of zodiacs. As the islands are remote and the waters are nutrient-rich with currents from the Antarctic, they are a breeding ground for Fur Seals, Sea Lions and numerous birds such as Shearwaters, Oystercatchers and Terns.
