Port Lincoln is a town of 14,500 inhabitants.  It is on Boston Bay, one of the largest protected harbours in the world, and it is the seafood and aquaculture capital of South Australia.
Our first stop was on a historic tuna fishing boat for a cookery demonstration by the best chef in town.  He showed us how to take the best cuts from a tuna and then prepared the most delicious tuna sashimi for us to taste.
We toured the harbour to watch the tuna being loaded and went out to the oyster farm, with the opportunity to taste fresh oysters for those who like them (not me).  The town was full of seabirds who are clearly as attracted to the seafood as we are.
Finally we visited the Axel Stenross Maritime Museum.  Stenross was a Finnish ship's carpenter who arrived in Port Lincoln in 1927 and decided to make it his home.  He built many of Port Lincoln's wooden tuna fishing boats.  His workshop and living quarters are a fascinating insight into life in a developing Australian town in the 20th century.
